Alright so this devo has taken me a super long time to write, not to
mention having my computer crash on me twice whilst trying to finish,
(ALWAYS SAVE. ALWAYS.) It isn't exactly what I planned, but bear with
me because here we go!
I want to talk about people's search for approval.
It's almost like it's human nature to ask "what do you think of
me? What can I do to be better? Why don't you like me?" and so
on. Turn on the t.v., the radio, or just take a look around you and
there are dozens of commercials and infomercials and ads telling you
"you can be ten years younger, ten pounds lighter, with a clear
complexion and a georgeous love interest, just by dialing this number
and sending three easy payments of $19.95..." blah blah blah. We
spend so much money, time and energy looking for the approval of other
people.
If we look deep inside ourselves, we should realize that we already
have all the approval we'll ever need.
We don't need to be loved and accepted from the world, because we have
God's love and God's approval. Among other things, (like peace) God
is love, demonstrated through Jesus. God, creator of EVERYTHING, all
powerful and huge sends this fantastical amazing perfect son down to
this craptacular planet to save us all! If that doesn't show love like
it's nobody's business, I don't know what does. Right? Okay good.
So we don't even need to be concerned with the approval of society,
friends, boyfriends, girlfriends, family, all that jazz. We have God's
approval. And living in God's way, in my experience, has helped make
gaining respect, (not necessarily approval) from all those groups of
people a lot easier. Sometimes you have to stand up on your own, and
that is really hard.
But knowing you have the ultimate approval makes it all worth it.
Check out these verses on God's amazing love:
- 1 John 4:16
- John 3:16 (a famous one!)
- Romans 5:8
- Romans 8:38-39
- 1 Corinthians 13:1-8
