December 18: The Painted Window

Break-in or Break through?

That is a question that I struggle with every day. When God did break into my life for the first time it was amazing. The light and joy was untouchable, for a while anyways. Have you ever found yourself in that constant state of bliss? From winning that last game, having a great time or just being exactly where you want to be? Thatís what it felt like when God broke into my life.

Then somehow you find yourself back where you donít want to be. For awhile, every day is a new adventure. But it slowly goes from "God and me? Whoa!" to "God and me? Oops." Then when you get back into yourself, living life for yourself, there are those feelings of self-regret, uncertainty and sadness. The light when God broke through -where did it go? It seems pretty dark now.

But itís kind of like this - imagine a glass window that you can't see out of. It's painted dark and you are confined to the room inside. When God breaks through that window there is a crack of light. You look at the light and it seems interesting. On the other side of that painted window there is more. More light than the room you're in right now can hold, a different place than the one you know. It seems exciting. Every time you talk to God the crack gets bigger and bigger and you can see more into the lighted world on the other side.

Sometimes we step in the way of the window, and then all we can see is our shadow. We can take our life and block out the light that God is trying to put in. When that happens the light is in the back of our mind and our focus is on the shadow; the shadow doesnít bring much light but, hey itís comfortable and youíre used to it.

We are familiar with our friends, routines, family, co-workers, team members etc. I challenge you to let God break in and try to become familiar with him too. It might just start out a little bit at a time; small cracks of light in the window. Maybe it's just too black and the paint is a little too thick. Maybe you feel like the hard stuff is just too hard and the stuff you've done is just too unforgivable. Well that light can go through anything! God can break into anyoneís life, no matter how much paint is on the window. Let him break into your life. See the light and how much more there is to discover about his world of light. Let God break in and set you free.

Scriptures to follow up:

2 Corinthians 4:6 For God, who said, "Let light shine out of the darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.

Psalm 56 10-13:

(13) For you have delivered me from death and my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of life.
