Check out: John 8:12
The speed of light is the constant of the universe. That was Einstein's great contribution to science in the Theory of Relativity. Because the speed of light is constant, other things that would seem to be constant, like the passage of time, are not! This is bizarre stuff! But, like it or not, the speed of light is the universal constant and the measuring stick for all the other measurements in the universe.
Jesus said that he is the "light of the world." Jesus is our constant. Jesus is the thing by which all else will be measured. Just like the speed of light doesn't change, neither does Jesus. He is always there for us, always constant in working for us, always ready to forgive us when we sin and to pick us up when we fall. Whether or not we live 'good' lives won't be judged by how successful we are or how much money we make or how many records we break or albums we sell. Whether or not we have lived a good life is judged on whether or not we have walked with Jesus. "Whoever walks with me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."
Do you use Jesus as your standard? Is he your constant? Lot's of people have worn WWJD bracelets, but how many of us judge our actions on what Jesus would have us do? How many of us judge the course of our lives on that?
If you realize that you haven't necessarily been living in a way that matches up well with Jesus as your standard of measurement, it's ok, it's not too late. Jesus is the light of the world, so there's plenty of light for you too. His light is sufficient to brighten up the dark spots in your life. You don't have to do that on your own. Heís good at lighting up other people and chasing away their shadows. But we must start making him our constant. We need to judge not just each action we take, but the course of our whole life on Jesusí standard. That's what it means to follow him- not just checking each step, but checking your whole path, your whole journey. The only way to do that is to follow him, which means looking for him and keeping your eyes on him and letting him pick you up when you stumble.
